So Funny, I Cried

I haven't seen a movie this funny in so long.

I started laughing at the beginning, kept on laughing right on through to the end.

I needed kleenex for tears within the first five minutes (sure, the one time I decide to wear mascara!) and wept over the humour and even over some touching moments.

My aunt was visiting from out-of-town and we went and it was so much fun.

Totally recommend. 10/10.  What a great night. Not to mention, so nice to see a hilarious movie with a virtually all-female cast!

A Mind Of His Own

As many of you can relate, tis the season for mandatory hat and sunscreen wearing with the little ones.  Although we have multiple hats, sunglasses and sunscreen, it never fails that they end up left in the car, hidden in a bag, out on the laundry line to be dried etc. so when you go to retrieve one (or tell my son's to go to their basket and get a hat) there are often slim pickings.  This morning, this is what my youngest son chose ... no switch that ... insisted on:

Now before anyone concludes that I am a delinquent Mom and was putting my son at risk of overheating in his wool tuque, the picture was taken at 8:30 in the morning and although a nice day, it was not yet hot enough to be an issue.  The afternoon's wardrobe choice - when it was a lot warmer - was a much cooler choice ... a baseball hat ;)

Oops - That's Where My Sock Went!

So the other day I had a super Mom moment. You know, the times where for some odd reason you have a surge of energy and pull out the almighty glue and craft bin and get creative on some project.

The other day it was "project sock puppets."

Step One: Find some lone socks to use. This step is never hard as I can never seem to find socks to match one another after I do laundry.  I found approximately four socks and then my son and I went to town with buttons, hot glue, shredded paper and paint. It was fun, and the end result was cute:

One of the more "minimal" versions without paint!

And then  yesterday Iwas going through some of my drawers looking for something and guess what I happened upon? ...

The missing sock

Oops! That's where my sock went! I guess I still had the pair after all. Should have gone with one of the older lone socks.

Luckily hot glue and buttons, as well as shredded paper adhered by hot glue are easily removed (as I found out this morning).

Today I enjoyed my new found socks! And they were happy to be worn again ... together ... on my feet.

Let's just hope my son doesn't notice and ask for the fourth puppet :)

The Royal Wedding ... March

In honour of the upcoming Royal Wedding and everyone's closet obsession with it (however minor or major it be - no judging here).

A cute video below by T-Mobile ... my husband and I happened upon it at about the one minute mark and we had to take a third and fourth look to see if it was really them ... you'll see what I mean.

Honesty From a Three Year Old

Today my three-year-old had this to say to me:
"Mom, you're bum is really big ... like the clouds"

... and yesterday as I was attempting to slide down his little tikes slide (which is not designed for anyone with even a trace of hips, nor his 32-year-old Mom):
"Mom, you won't fit, your bum is bigger than Daddy's."

Apparently he is into comparing bottoms this week.

Source

Last week it was this comment directed to a family member:

"My tummy gets big like yours when I eat my food. You know who else has a big tummy? _______(insert  family/friend's name who may or may not be reading this- protecting the innocent)"

So I guess it is official then, we have entered the "honesty" stage.  Great! Did I mention he inherited my voice - one that is loud and carries very well in public places.

Here is the challenge:  he is just being honest and talking like he would about anything else he sees ... he doesn't know that big tummies are bad, or that the mention of large buttocks to females can send them into a tizzy (FYI- I was not fazed by his comments). I hesitate to hush him or correct him because I don't want him to be embarrassed or feel like he can't talk openly and I don't want to make too big of a deal of anything because then it draws more attention to the person and the characteristic he has observed.  I have settled with trying to change the subject or divert his attention while in the public place with observed person within earshot and then talking about it privately afterwards and trying to explain that .... well, that's just it, how do you explain social norms to a 3-year-old ?

Have a good one!

No Need For Chomping After 25

In my opinion, there's not much need for it after the age of 25.

I mean gum has its purposes - something to do when you're bored, freshen up the ol' breath after a spicy meal or pre-meeting and something to offer friends or attractive peers while in college.

If you're like me, I don't get bored very often, I am much more confident in my spicy breath than I was when I was 21, I don't attend meetings regularly and now that I have my husband, there is no need for the pick-up chiclet.

Now if you chew your Dentyne nicely, quietly and rather uneventfully, then you're not on my hit list.  But, on the other hand, if you are a chomper and do so in public, you are definitely who I'm talking about.

See, I'm talking about the person that looks like this when they are chewing.

No, quite literally, they look like that.

I started drafting this article after spending quite a bit of time in airports during the Christmas holidays and there are definitely some middle-aged aggressive bubble gum chewers out there.

In the privacy of your own home, perhaps relishing in some delicious strawberry Bubblicious nostalgia post-Halloween - sure, by all means. But in public? At a formal event? (there's always one at every wedding). At work? (... maybe, and that is a HUGE maybe, if you are very discreet and keep the gum 99 per cent of the time in a cheek pocket).

I don't mean to be all Emily Post etiquette on your asses, but come on, it looks silly, so unclassy and like you should have head phones and high tops on and at least two different colours in your hair. Oh and a "1" in the first digit of your age.

How does this look to you?

I know there will be a lot of you out there that disagree with me and that is fine.  Just thought I would share some thoughts.

So what is your gum chewing style?  Still chewing? Closet chomper?

Mad At My Stroller!

I actually told my stroller to FU%* off today.

I kind of laughed at myself afterwards.

I had just supposedly clicked my wonderful (insert sarcasm) double stroller into its locked, flat & folded position and then I tried to one arm it into the back of my vehicle at which time it decided it wasn't locked and popped open, falling right in the pile of slushy brown snow by my feet. This all happening after I had the kids out about 45 minutes more than I should have, asking them to behave in various stores, rushing home for lunch so yeah, I told it to F&*K off because wouldn't you think it should be on Mom's side, helping me out wherever it can. Nope, plop, splat, right in the crappy old slush.

Woo hoo.

So I pulled myself together realizing I was speaking to an inanimate object, tossed it in the trunk, this time for good, slammed the trunk shut and went about my business.

Deep breaths and away we go.

Voila, your comedic mental image for the day and permission to tell your stroller whatever you want today.

The Man Flu

When my husband gets sick, which to be honest isn't that often, I always feel bad. I feel bad because I remember the days pre-kids when I could actually take care of him, dote on him and let him be a baby. Now with kids, I openly communicate that he has 24 hours to get better because I can't handle taking care of everybody and everything on my own (the kids always seem to be sick at the same time). I don't really even tend to his ailments, I more just try to keep the kids away from him and provide some peace and quiet. Not always possible though when it is known that Daddy is home and in his bedroom available for pouncing on (reminder: I have two boys, hence the pouncing).
My friend forwarded me this link, titled "Man Flu" just before Christmas (thanks Lindsay B.) and thought you may enjoy.  Here's hoping there isn't any Man Flu happening in your household as you prepare to ring in the new year.

Sleep Training 101 - Friday's Funny

I got this in an email this week from my friend Erin (thanks!) and thought I would share.

I'm sure most of you can relate.  Kind of brings you back to the 1980s and the Look Who's Talking Movies with John Travolta and Kierstie Alley.

Anyways, not sure on the source, sorry, but here it is. Enjoy!

Dear Fellow Babies,

OK, here's my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost 5 months. The first few months were great--I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, around the clock. Then something happened. Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep thru the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I've talked to other babies, and it seems like its pretty common after Mommies have had us for around 5-6 months. Here's the thing: these Mommies don't really need to sleep. It's just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep--they just don't need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle.

It goes like this:

Night 1--cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, it's hard. It's hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, it's for her own good.

Night 2--cry every 2 hours until you get fed.

Night 3--every hour.

Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights.
Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don't give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW IT'S HARD! But she really does not need the sleep; she is just resisting the change.. If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it.

The other night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with:
My sleep sack tickled my foot.
I felt a wrinkle under the sheet.
My mobile made a shadow on the wall.
I burped, and it tasted like rice cereal. I hadn't eaten rice cereal since breakfast, what's up with that?
The dog said "ruff". I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL.
Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room.
Too hot, too cold, just right--doesn't matter! Keep crying!!
I had drooled so much my sheets were damp and I didn’t like it touching me.
I decided I was sick of all the pink in my room so I cried.

It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies' internal clocks.

Sometimes my Mommy will call for reinforcements by sending in Daddy. Don’t worry Daddies are not set up for not needing sleep the way Mommies are. They can only handle a few pats and shhing before they declare defeat and send in the Mommy.

Also, be weary of the sleep sheep with rain noises. I like to give Mommy false hope that listening to the rain puts me to sleep sometimes I pretend to close my eyes and be asleep and then wait until I know Mommy is settling back to sleep to spring a surprise cry attack. If she doesn’t get to me fast enough I follow up with my fake cough and gag noise that always has her running to the crib. At some point I am positive she will start to realize that she really doesn’t really need sleep.

P.S. Don't let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out. Trust me.

Sincerely,

Charlotte

Friday Fun and David Beckham

So this post has nothing to do with me, cashmere, carrot sticks or being a stay-at-home Mom, but it is worth a laugh on Friday.

Yesterday while I was at the dentist they had the Ellen Show on the television and one of her guests was David Beckham.  Anyways, focus here ladies ... Ellen often does pranks using her guests, and she does this one, preying on an unsuspecting massage therapist, using David Beckham.  I just finished watching it and have tears streaming down my face. It has been a long time since I laughed that hard.

I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

Have a wonderful weekend.
