Where To Put All That Wrapping Stuff on Christmas Morning?

So if your house looks anything like mine right now, it's a scary site and I can't imagine Christmas morning - paper, bows, boxes, tissue - too much fun!

A few years back, when I was working in a communications job, I had to put together a media release all about holiday items and how they all stacked up re: recycling, garbage and green bin. Thought I would share so you can sort accordingly. Here goes:

RECYCLABLE
  • Non-metallic wrapping paper
  • Greeting cards, envelopes, gift cards and tags
  • Cardboard packaging and boxes (with all plastic wrap removed and put in garbage)
  • 2007 calendars (coils removed)
  • Aluminum foil, plates and trays
  • Plastic bakery containers (muffin trays, cupcake trays, etc.)
  • Egg nog cartons, milk and juice containers
NOT RECYCLABLE
  • Shiny metallic-coated wrapping paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbons, bows, beads, string, garland and tinsel
  • Rigid plastic packaging (used on electronics and toy packaging)
  • Batteries (these items need to be taken to hazardous waste depot)
  • Bubble wrap and styrofoam

GREEN BIN
  • Coffee grounds, filters and tea bags
  • Paper napkins
  • Christmas dinner leftovers
Keep in mind, these facts were compiled for York Region, and information may vary in different geographic locations.

  1. I can't believe how much we have to throw out after this weekends festivities. Am glad most of it is blue bin and green bin though. But still, so much stuff!
